Design Your Legacy Recap
Design Your Legacy marked The Hustle Legacy’s first in-person event—an experience designed to bring community, creativity, and self-expression into a shared physical space. Co-created in partnership with Design Your Interior, this event was built around a simple idea: that self-discovery deepens when we create alongside others.
As I’ve built this space for creatives, entrepreneurs, and small businesses, I never let go of the idea that stories, knowledge, and experiences are the backbone of discovery and development. The connections we make with others, the shared experiences, and the courage to explore our creative sides are the keys to fully understanding ourselves. This philosophy was the driving force behind our first in-person event, Design Your Legacy, a collaboration with Kat Herrick, founder of Design Your Interior.
Collaborating with Design Your Interior
The event's origins were as serendipitous as they were inspiring. Kat and I have witnessed the births of each others’ brands. We understood the passion that lived behind our missions and the deep craving to build a community of impact that burned within each of us. Reminiscing on the beginning of our journey, back when we were forging friendships over group photo shoots, we became inspired to bring that magic back by connecting with local creatives and fostering a safe space for exploration and content creation.
This vision perfectly aligned with both brands' core values - that Self Discovery thrives when we step outside of our comfort zones, connect with like-minded individuals, and embrace the power of community. It’s a sentiment we both tried to encourage to our online audiences, and one we were ready to bring to life through in-person connections.
Content, Connection, & Confidence
The idea was simple: to bring creatives together, pull out our cameras, and take pictures like no one’s watching. The point was to have fun with it. It didn’t matter if you weren’t a skilled photographer or didn’t know how to pose in front of the camera. There was no pressure to perform at your best. This event served as an opportunity for you to explore yourself, try something new, and find the beauty in being outside of your comfort zone.
Our day began with a casual picnic in the park, a low-key approach that fostered a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. As guests arrived, the energy became infectious. Laughter filled the air as we introduced ourselves, exchanged creative pursuits, and reveled in the excitement of new connections.
Fueled by fresh pastries and vibrant conversation, we ventured into the charming streets of Old Town, Alexandria. Armed with our cameras and a shared sense of curiosity, we embarked on a creative photoshoot. The picturesque scenery became our canvas, and our outfits, an extension of our bold personalities. Each click of the shutter captured not just a beautiful image, but a moment of shared vulnerability and creative expression.
Fostering Self Discovery Beyond the Pictures
More than the captivating photos, however, was the profound connections built. As we explored the streets, we shared stories about our creative journeys. We heard tales of artistic pursuits, entrepreneurial dreams, and the unique paths that led us to this pivotal moment. We dared one another to be bold, fueled each other’s “unrealistic” ideas, and celebrated the leader that lived within each of us. These candid conversations proved that Self Discovery grows stronger when it’s done alongside others.
This event became a safe space for all attendees to embrace their creative side. It transcended a simple photoshoot; it was a testament to the power of community and the transformative potential of creative exploration. We all left that day feeling invigorated. We had created something special, a platform where local creatives could connect, express themselves, and find support on their journeys of Self Discovery.
